My Thyroid Has Been Put Out to Green Pastures

It has been almost a month since I've had my thyroid taken out!

I was a little nervous about what pre-op would entail. I had to get my insurance verified and take blood, urine, vital stats, and information. The lady that was helping us was so talkative and sweet! I love people like that :)!!

The day of my surgery..
Honestly, I do not do well with medical procedures such as operations. The night before, I made sure to take 2 Paxils so I would be cool as a fool the next day.I had a hard time going to sleep because my mother was going to be traveling in the wee hours of the morning to my house from east, Texas and I was worried she would be late. My anxiety got pretty high before bed time and I wanted to stay up longer, but I decided it would be best to go to bed. I fell asleep around 2AM. Mom cut it pretty close to the time that we had to leave! We had to be there at 5:30AM to check-in and leave the house around 4:30AM!! Basically, I had an entourage in the waiting room. Nana, papa, Aunt Dina, UNcle Randy, my BFF, Crystal, RYan, and mom! I was chill but still a little nervous. I made sure to go to the bathroom and the nurse came in to have me change into those hideous hospital gowns! Mine was YELLOW because I was a patient that could fall. When I took this picture I still had my undergarments on, but the nurse caught me and made me take everything off! Not fair!
Anywho, I was able to visit with everyone for a while. Ryan stayed in there at all times. I got to visit with Crystal, nana, Aunt Dina, papa, and then nana and momma came in there to hear what the doctors and nurses had to say. The IV hurt like a mo-fo, but I took it like a champ and LUCKILY..the nurse was good! My Aunt Dina made me squeeze her hand lol. It felt good to know that most of the people I loved were close when I needed them the most. Doctors came in and out around the 6 o'clock hour since my surgery was at 7AM. They were feeling my neck and asking me questions regarding anesthesia.I was really shocked at how well I was handling everything. Normally, I would be at like a 10 in anxiety and freaking out!
Finally..it was that time! I was actually excited with a tinge of nervousness. The medical cocktail was injected and I felt it almost immediately! It was like my world suddenly slowed down and I felt like I was hit with a humongo wave of drowsiness. Everything got pretty blurry, but I was told that I was laughing it up and being a little giggle box! If Crystal had been in there..she would have been videoing! I tried to reach out for my family as I was being wheeled down the hallway.
I remember being wheeled into the operation room and transferred over to a cold, hard table. Everything was sterile and silver. The anesthesiologists were talking about their weekends while pumping me full of sleepy time gas. I tried to stay awake to hear more of their conversation, but finally I drifted off to LaLa Land/ Sweet Oblivion and woke up into HELL......
The recovery room was hot and loud! I remember groggily trying to remove the cover and my socks. The nurses kept trying to tell me that they would help me. Then, I was balancing a splitting headache with irritation because the gentleman next to me was confused and trying to pull his hoses out. I know he could't help it, but his yelling made me want to choke him so he would stop. They pumped me with some medicine so my headache would go away. I was so uncomfortable! My head was on this stiff donut shaped pillow that was made out of vinyl. Really, I just wanted to jump out of my skin at that moment. I dozed off several times. I had a hard time talking because my throat was so sore and my neck felt stiff. Ryan came back to see me first and it was so hard to stay awake. Then, mom and nana came in to talk to me. Mom held my hand because I told her I was feeling so uncomfortable. She told me later that my blood pressure was pretty high since I was in so much pain.
FINALLY, I got into my room around 3:30PM and I was so grateful! The room was a little warm but I was so glad to be away from psycho screamer man. I finally got to see papa, Aunt Dina, and Uncle Randy. I was sad because Crystal went home :(. She was so tired! Everyone was crammed into my little room and tried to visit with me for a little while. Then, they went home while I rest. Mom and RY stayed up there with me. I dozed in and out while doctors and nurses came in to check me out. We found out that only one person could stay with me so I decided that mom would be the best person for the job.
Throughout the night, nurses came in to check my stats. I tried my best to eat but I would lose my appetite and it hurt to eat. In fact, it took me hours to finish my dinner. I started feeling pain around 1AM so they had to give me medicine. I was dozing in and out. Mom helped me through the night which is right up her alley (she's a nurse). The nurse changed me out of my yellow gown and socks into blue ones since I was no longer a fall risk. I really liked those blood circulation cuffs on my leg. They actually felt pretty good. At around 6AM, a ton of doctors walked into the room to check me out. It was so hot that I was kind of sitting un-lady like so I quickly shut my legs together lol. My appetite began to come back and I was able to eat some breakfast. Of course, it was still hard to eat.
Ryan came up there and we got all my stuff together. I was able to be discharged by 11AM. The guy that wheeled me down to the truck was super nice. I was so happy to finally be going home!
